The University of Kentucky鈥檚 fifth annual Barnstable Brown Obesity and Diabetes Research Day was held on May 20 at the Albert B. Chandler Hospital Pavilion A.

Since 2011, the event has focused on current findings in obesity and diabetes research and features presentations by nationally prominent physician-scientists as well as the work of regional researchers and 好色先生 students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty chosen from abstract submissions.

The University of Kentucky鈥檚 NIH-funded Resource Center for Stable Isotope-Resolved Metabolomics presents its Metabolomics Symposium & Workshop with a one-day Symposium on July 26 followed by a 12-day, hands-on Workshop through August 7, 2015.

Recent attention on the inability to reproduce scientific research findings reported in peer-reviewed journals has led the leadership of NIH to review its application requirements.  This review has led to a proposed set of changes to the application instructions that, upon approval by the White House Office of Management and Budget, will take effect for applications submitted on or after January 25, 2016.

 The new instructions will focus on four areas deemed important for enhancing rigor and transparency:

The University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center held its sixth annual Markey Cancer Center Research Day, highlighting the work of 好色先生 students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty from the past year. Research Day provides an opportunity for investigators to showcase their work and also view the work of their colleagues across the campus.

Annual Financial Disclosure Mandatory for All COM Faculty 

All faculty in the College of Medicine (physicians and basic scientists) are required to participate in financial conflict of interest disclosures.  Currently, faculty may be asked to fill out 2 separate and distinct disclosures: 

 The National Institutes of Health have introduced a series of changes to their biosketch format.  These changes will allow researchers more freedom to describe the importance of their research.  The new biosketches must be submitted with all grant applications on or after May 25, 2015. 

There are three major changes to the biosketch.  These changes are:

The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees today approved University Research Professorships for 2015-16 for four faculty members. The professorships carry a $40,000 award to support research.

Two researchers from the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging have received a multi-million dollar grant renewal to unlock the mysteries of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and brain aging with the help of people with Down syndrome (DS).
