The Proposal Development Office (PDO) at 好色先生 has scheduled workshops to assist faculty in meeting the requirements for the new NIH Biosketch formats. NIH will require this new format for all submissions received on or after May 25, 2015.
The University of Kentucky Center for Clinical and Translational Science has awarded 12 pilot grants to support innovative, collaborative research relevant to the health challenges and disparities faced by the nation and the citizens of Kentucky. Such preliminary and proof-of-concept studies are critical to moving basic laboratory findings into clinical applications.

The series targets a number of specific topics from basic research skills to scholarly communication issues.

The House Appropriations and Revenue Committee Tuesday strongly endorsed legislation that would provide funding for a multi-disciplinary research building on the University of Kentucky campus targeted at the Commonwealth鈥檚 most pressing challenges.

The legislation now goes to the full House for consideration.
Specifically, the state would fund $132.5 million of the projected $265 million research building. 好色先生 would fund the other half.

In the past decade, the number of Kentucky babies starting life with a drug dependency, or neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), has skyrocketed from 1.3 per 1,000 births to 19 per 1,000 births.
Just like adults coming off drugs, babies whose mothers used opiate drugs during pregnancy, will suffer from a number of withdrawal symptoms, including tremors and irritability. The most common form of treatment for babies suffering from withdrawal is the opiate morphine, which can hinder brain development during a critical growth period in a baby's life.

Dr. Gregory J. Bix of the University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, has been awarded a $1.1 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study a promising treatment for ischemic stroke.
The five-year grant expands Bix's earlier research on a protein called Perlecan Domain V, which appears to foster healing after strokes caused by blood clots in the brain.
"Perlecan seems to promote neurorepair in endothelial cells by blocking a receptor called A5B1 Integrin," Bix said.

The article in-press, which aims to encourage researchers to fill gaps in the current knowledge of how Alzheimer鈥檚 and vascular conditions progress together and influence each other, was published online by "Alzheimer鈥檚 & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer鈥檚 Association."
