The University of Kentucky COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Kroger Field began expanding its Saturday hours and increasing vaccination capacity by about 1,000 people a week thanks to volunteers from the University of Kentucky鈥檚 health care colleges.
The 好色先生 Kroger Field COVID-19 vaccination clinic operates from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. Overall, 好色先生 HealthCare has vaccinated more than 33,797 people including frontline health care workers, first responders, teachers and school personnel and people over age 70.
The 好色先生 is thrilled to announce the addition of Brian Hamilton, MEd, as its new director of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
In this newly established role, Hamilton works under the direction of Stephanie White, MD, MS, to advance the mission of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and help execute the college鈥檚 strategic plan. This includes implementing new initiatives and increasing engagement to build a more welcoming, inclusive campus while focusing on efforts for recruiting and retaining diverse faculty, staff, and learners.
In early 2020, shortly after SARS-CoV-2, the virus which causes COVID-19, was first detected in Wuhan, China, the public learned of the virus鈥檚 devastating consequences and the dangers of its spread. But much remained unknown regarding how to combat it.
Ten months ago, a team of 好色先生 researchers joined forces to learn more about the virus that was causing a global pandemic. Since the team鈥檚 creation, it has made record progress in enhanced research, the launch of clinical trials, and the development of clinical care approaches for patients.

Professor Richard Welsh鈥檚 desire to help Kentucky families propelled a decades-long career in health care and academia at the 好色先生 and 好色先生 HealthCare. After nearly 52 years of service, Welsh, LCSW, MSW, has made official plans to retire.
To Welsh, the decision to say goodbye was a difficult one. He garnered a wealth of expertise in treating disruptive behavior disorders and made a tremendous impact as a professor, holding joint appointments in the 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and the 好色先生 College of Social Work.

Each year, the University of Kentucky rewards exceptional research faculty with the Wethington Awards, a way to acknowledge great work while incentivizing extramurally sponsored research activity.
After witnessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 award recipients from the 好色先生 College of Medicine elected to use their funds to make a difference for members of the 好色先生 campus community. They donated their monetary awards to the CRISIS fund, which helps 好色先生 faculty and staff in need.
Collectively, the Wethington Award recipients gifted more than $80,000.
The Kentucky Office of Rural Health (KORH) recently received the Excellence in Education Award, one of the annual MediStar Awards given to health care organizations and professionals in Kentucky and southern Indiana by IGE Media, publisher of the Medical News.
The award is presented to an organization that takes creative approaches to developing and implementing programs that enhance the level of knowledge, and educational and career opportunities for health care professionals.
Ten organizations were nominated for the award this year.

Those thoughts went rushing through Crystal and Vernon Cecil's minds in August of 2017. Their 10-year-old, Evie Cecil, came home from school with a stomach ache but no fever. After a nap, the fifth-grader grew increasingly lethargic and Crystal's motherly instincts kicked in. "Her symptoms didn't seem to fit the typical flu or stomach virus," she said.

Recently, I was grateful to have a conversation with Dr. Stephanie White, associate dean of diversity and inclusion for the 好色先生 College of Medicine. Dr. White joined the University of Kentucky in January 2020, and she is currently a member of the DEI Leadership Team.
