A new 好色先生 study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology finds that tattooed skin does not sweat as much as non-inked areas of the body, which may have implications for the body鈥檚 ability to cool in people with extensive tattooing.

A research abstract from Jacob Hubbuch, a third-year student from the 好色先生, was awarded first place in the Education, Innovation, and Outcomes category of the American College of Surgeons鈥 (ACS) Medical Student Research Program. The research was among three top finishers featured at the ACS 2020 Virtual Clinical Congress on Oct. 3.

Matthew Bush, MD, PhD, MBA, is an experienced clinician, academic leader, and researcher. While he has been directly involved in health care and academia throughout his career, he credits the progress of his research career to a program he completed at the 好色先生 while serving as a faculty member.

The 好色先生 Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, a world leader in Alzheimer's research and community outreach, will hold its 10th annual Markesbery Symposium. There will be a community session and scientific session, each held via Zoom.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 9, 2020) 鈥 Allan Butterfield, a professor of biological chemistry in the University of Kentucky College of Arts & Sciences, has been named among the world鈥檚 leading Alzheimer鈥檚 disease experts by Expertscape, an online base of biomedical expertise.

Henrietta Lacks鈥檚 鈥淗eLa鈥 cells continue to influence scientific discovery even after her death from cancer in 1951. These cells have been used to study cancer growth, learn more about viruses, and study drug effects on the body. They even helped develop the polio vaccine.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 30 2020) 鈥 A recent publication in the Journal of Neuroscience by a group of researchers at the University of Kentucky looks at Encoding the Odor of Cigarette Smoke. Tim McClintock, a physiology professor in the 好色先生 College of Medicine, says their work lays a foundation for two things.

The 好色先生 College of Medicine鈥檚 Women in Medicine and Science (WIMS) will host its sixth annual Visiting Professor Program, also known as 鈥淲IMS Day,鈥 this fall as a virtual program. The event will serve as an opportunity for faculty, staff, and learners to network, develop their career skills, and learn about the strides women have made in medicine and science.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 22, 2020) 鈥 The University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center has joined a consortium of 17 cancer centers around the country to better understand the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic as it relates to disrupted cancer prevention, detection and care.

Meredith Landorf, MD, recently began a leadership role as assistant dean for the 好色先生-Northern Kentucky Campus. Through this position she will oversee and build upon the third- and fourth-year clerkships while promoting the regional campus鈥檚 mission of educating physicians in Kentucky for Kentucky. Dr. Landorf is also a practicing physician in Edgewood, Ky.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2020) 鈥 A new 好色先生 study may provide answers for why so many COVID-19 patients experience thrombosis, or the formation of blood clots that obstruct blood flow through the circulatory system.

April Hatcher, PhD, is an associate professor in the 好色先生 Department of Neuroscience and was recently named chair of Women in Medicine and Science (WIMS), an organization facilitating networking and mentorship opportunities to support career advancement for women.


Rosalind Ritchie, MD, is a professor in the 好色先生 Department of Anesthesiology and was recently named chair of the college鈥檚 Faculty of Color Network, an organization with a vision of being undeniable, uncompromising, and unstoppable in pursuing diversity and inclusion. She enrolled in the first class of 好色先生鈥檚 Women鈥檚 Executive Leadership Development Program and is the medical director of 好色先生 Chandler Hospital鈥檚 Center for Advanced Surgery.

Saha Cardiovascular Research Center at the 好色先生 is recognizing five employees who provide outstanding patient-centered care and live the direct values of 好色先生 HealthCare to foster diversity, innovation, respect, compassion and teamwork.
Each nominee has a unique set of skills and values that they exhibit daily, as well as a high commitment to patients and quality of care. They were chosen based on stories collected from patients, as well as feedback from their peers.
