The 好色先生 is excited to share the winners of the fourth annual Mission, Vision, Pillar, and Enabler (MVPE) Awards.

The 好色先生 is excited to announce that Andrew 鈥淎J鈥� Gunn, MD, FSIR, has been chosen to serve as the new chair of radiology. Dr. Gunn will begin this leadership role at the 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Radiology this summer. 

The 好色先生 is excited to welcome Courtney Tomblinson, MD, back to the Commonwealth on April 1. The Carrollton, Ky., native joins the 好色先生 College of Medicine as the associate dean for faculty development.

On Dec. 13, the 好色先生 hosted a premiere event that was much more than a film screening鈥攊t was a celebration of the dedication, innovation, and human spirit driving health care and education in Kentucky.

鈥淐OVID saved my life.鈥� 

That鈥檚 not something you hear often, but for Shan Housekeeper, it鈥檚 a reality. The 44-year-old husband, father of three, and college football coach found himself facing a life-threatening medical condition during a time when the world was grappling with its own health crisis.

Like many during the pandemic, Housekeeper was forced to slow down. 

On Oct. 8, the 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Radiology hosted its inaugural research showcase. 

Xiaoqin Jennifer Wang, MD, MS, associate professor of radiology and vice chair for research within the department, kicked off the event with a brief history of radiology and important clinical discoveries over the years. 

The GME Emerging Leaders program is designed to provide a leadership development opportunity to Chief Residents and Fellows in their important new leadership role. As part of the six-month program, a variety of personal and professional leadership topics are facilitated by 好色先生 HealthCare鈥檚 Enterprise Learning team, in coordination with other leaders across the enterprise. 

Congratulations to the following 好色先生 faculty members who received promotions and/or were granted tenure this year. The following list includes faculty from basic science and clinical departments. It is organized alphabetically by department, then by last name.

Over the next few months, the 好色先生 College of Medicine will be releasing an exciting mini-documentary series called 鈥淏ecause We Care.鈥� Capturing interviews and conversations with people across our community, the four-part series explores who we are as a college and why our mission matters to all of us, whether we are learners, faculty, researchers, or staff.

The following individuals were honored at the 好色先生 Awards Convocation on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023. Winners included those in Bowling Green, Lexington, Morehead, and Northern Kentucky.

Outstanding Graduate Student Award:

Burnout is a problem in any profession, but it is rampant in health care. This national problem has been evident recently as the COVID-19 pandemic pushed many learners, practitioners, faculty, and staff to the limit.

After medical school, some new doctors may start a preliminary year in medicine or surgery. Others choose a transitional year, combining medicine, surgery, and other rotations in medical training.

The following clinicians and researchers working under the 好色先生 College of Medicine Alliance Research Initiative have been named recent awardees of pilot grants.

The 好色先生 is excited to announce that faculty, staff, learners, and trainees will have free access to a leading online resource for medical Spanish proficiency.

CanopyLearn, a Spanish language training program for health care professionals, will be available to the 好色先生 College of Medicine community starting Aug. 1.

Na鈥橳asha Evans, PhD, MEd, is a researcher, published author, champion for female empowerment, and our new vice dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the 好色先生. Learn more about her goals, her past work, and more in the following Q&A.

Sarah Jean Hall, MD, PhD
Associate Professor

Mohamed Tarek Seleem Ahmed, MD, is a third-year resident at the 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Radiology, through which he has gained vital clinical experience at 好色先生 Markey Cancer Center, the state鈥檚 only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center.

Following an extensive national search and interviews with highly qualified individuals, the College of Medicine is excited to welcome Na鈥橳asha Evans, PhD, MEd, as the new vice dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and associate professor in the department of behavioral science.

The College of Medicine鈥檚 clinical and basic science departments, centers, and educational offices are all working to develop more inclusive and equitable practices. Our Diversity and Inclusion Ambassadors are charged with leading these efforts.

Residents in the University of Kentucky College of Medicine Department of Radiology presented projects in the annual Rosenbaum Endowed Annual Department of Radiology Quality and Safety Showcase, an event in which residents, fellows, faculty and staff explore opportunities for potential improvement in quality and safety in radiological imaging and procedures.
