Megalin: A Bridge Connecting Kidney, the Renin-angiotensin System, and Atherosclerosis

A postdoctoral scholar position is available in the Saha Cardiovascular Research Center to study vascular physiology and cardiovascular disease in the lab of Dr. Scott Gordon, Ph.D. The Gordon lab focuses on the role of lipoproteins in vascular inflammation and atherosclerosis. Our highly translational research projects range from in vitro cell culture experiments, to in vivo animal studies, to human gene association studies. Abstract 

Heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF) is a representative EGF family member that interacts with EGFR under diverse stress environment. Previously, we reported that the HB-EGF-targeting using antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) effectively suppressed an aortic aneurysm in the vessel wall and circulatory lipid levels. In this study, we further examined the effects of the HB-EGF ASO administration on the development of hyperlipidemia-associated atherosclerosis using an atherogenic mouse model.

The event begins at 8:30 am with registration and breakfast in Pavilion A Auditorium in the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

The University of Kentucky Saha Cardiovascular Research Center is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for the Saha Awards. The Saha Awards are given to encourage and support staff and students with an interest in and dedication to cardiovascular medicine. Each award includes an unrestricted $1000 prize, a certificate and recognition at the University of Kentucky Gill Heart Institute Cardiovascular Research Day held on September 20, 2019 at the Gatton Student Center.
