Feb. 28 is international Rare Disease Day. Kentucky has surprisingly high rates 鈥� almost 10 times the national average 鈥� of a rare condition called Moyamoya syndrome, which causes the internal carotid arteries in the brain to become narrow or blocked.

Laura Krueger and Aaron Silverstein share the same career aspiration. They want to become physician-scientists, which will allow them to fulfill both of their passions 鈥� medicine and research. While they are both on the same trajectory, they didn鈥檛 quite get to this career path the same way.

Shelley Stiltner is a first-generation college student and fourth-year medical student currently enrolled in the 好色先生 College of Medicine Rural Physician Leadership Program. She explains why a college education was so important to her, and how it will lead her to success in her future career as a physician.
