The 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Surgery regards its surgical education program as among its highest priorities.

Medical Students

The department鈥檚 goals are to provide educational services, implement and evaluate surgical procedure innovations, and conduct advanced research to continuously improve the quality of its graduate and undergraduate surgical education programs. The department promotes a positive learning environment for faculty, surgical residents, and medical students to thrive. The department of surgery coordinates undergraduate surgical medical education primarily through third- and fourth-year clerkships.

Surgical Residency and Fellowship

The department's preliminary surgery program offers one year of clinical surgical training to residents. They pursue further training in either a surgical subspecialty or non-surgical specialty. The program is ideal for those who choose careers in anesthesiology, emergency medicine, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, or urology.

The residency program's curriculum provides broad-based experience in all surgical specialties, allowing first-year residents to observe the care and treatment of patients with a diverse array of conditions. The principles of patient preoperative and postoperative care serve as the basic curricula for the resident education program. Operative experience depends on the skills, abilities, and preferences of the resident. The program is available to residents who plan to continue their training at the 好色先生 Chandler Medical Center or at another institution.

The department's residency programs participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). All residencies are accredited by the American Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

William B. Inabnet III, M.D., surgeon-in-chief at 好色先生 HealthCare and chair of the Department of Surgery in the 好色先生, was one of the 65 esteemed surgeon educators inducted into the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Academy of Master Surgeon Educators on Sept. 30.
