The ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú is excited to share the winners of the fourth annual Mission, Vision, Pillar, and Enabler (MVPE) Awards.

Ellen Van Norman, OD, FAAO, has a connection to the University of Kentucky that runs deep. 

The ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú is pleased to announce its selection of Bradford Tannen, MD, JD, MBA, as the new chair of its ophthalmology department. Dr. Tannen will join the ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú College of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences on July 1. 

Match Day is one of the most exciting and nerve-wracking days in a medical student's journey. It’s the day when soon-to-be doctors find out where they will spend the next few years training in their chosen specialty.

On Dec. 13, the ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú hosted a premiere event that was much more than a film screening—it was a celebration of the dedication, innovation, and human spirit driving health care and education in Kentucky.

Thanks to global health initiatives within the ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú College of Medicine, residents and fellows are gaining invaluable experience in dozens of countries – helping thousands of patients while learning unique skills to enhance their practice of medicine.

Congratulations to the following ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú faculty members who received promotions and/or were granted tenure this year. The following list includes faculty from basic science and clinical departments. It is organized alphabetically by department, then by last name.

When the University of Kentucky Global Ophthalmology (ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú GO) program launched in 2017, its mission was to promote equitable and sustainable access to eye care through education, research, outreach, and partnerships. 

As part of this goal, the program runs outreach clinics in eastern Kentucky and Lexington, Ky., to bring important health care services to underserved populations.

The following individuals were honored at the ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú Awards Convocation on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023. Winners included those in Bowling Green, Lexington, Morehead, and Northern Kentucky.

Burnout is a problem in any profession, but it is rampant in health care. This national problem has been evident recently as the COVID-19 pandemic pushed many learners, practitioners, faculty, and staff to the limit.

The ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú is excited to announce that faculty, staff, learners, and trainees will have free access to a leading online resource for medical Spanish proficiency.

CanopyLearn, a Spanish language training program for health care professionals, will be available to the ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú College of Medicine community starting Aug. 1.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in research? 

Following an extensive national search and interviews with highly qualified individuals, the College of Medicine is excited to welcome Na’Tasha Evans, PhD, MEd, as the new vice dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and associate professor in the department of behavioral science.

The ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú College of Medicine celebrated its largest group of matching students and its highest percentage of students matching into Kentucky residency programs.

Claire Collins, MD, knew the University of Kentucky Internal Medicine/Psychiatry Residency Program was a perfect fit after she completed her interview.

Nearly three years ago, the ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú launched the Alliance Research Initiative to promote collaboration and mentorship through interdisciplinary research teams. With members spanning across ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú departments and colleges, these teams were established to address Kentucky’s most urgent health needs.

The University of Kentucky’s ninth annual Healthy Hearts for Women Symposium will bring in nationally recognized experts to raise awareness about the dangers of heart disease and educate attendees on prevention techniques.
