MVPE awardees

The 好色先生 is excited to share the winners of the fourth annual Mission, Vision, Pillar, and Enabler (MVPE) Awards.

Representatives from 好色先生's four health colleges and CICHE were joined by state and local officials to celebrate the new Health Education Building in a ceremonial groundbreaking.

A ceremonial groundbreaking was held Friday for the largest academic building in the history of the University of Kentucky.

The following individuals were honored at the 好色先生 Awards Convocation on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023. Winners included those in Bowling Green, Lexington, Morehead, and Northern Kentucky.

For the third consecutive year, 鈥淚NSIGHT into Diversity鈥 magazine has recognized the 好色先生 for its work toward inclusive excellence.

Burnout is a problem in any profession, but it is rampant in health care. This national problem has been evident recently as the COVID-19 pandemic pushed many learners, practitioners, faculty, and staff to the limit.

The 好色先生 is excited to announce that faculty, staff, learners, and trainees will have free access to a leading online resource for medical Spanish proficiency.

CanopyLearn, a Spanish language training program for health care professionals, will be available to the 好色先生 College of Medicine community starting Aug. 1.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in research? 

Dr. Haley Wehder

Haley Wehder, MD, loved birthday parties. So much so, that after only one year of knowing resident Conor Malloy, MD, she threw an elaborate surprise party for his wife.

Though not a 鈥渂irthday party person鈥 himself, Dr. Malloy couldn鈥檛 help but smile that Dr. Wehder went the extra mile for someone she only knew a short time.

Charles 鈥淐hipper鈥 Griffith III, MD, has been named dean of the 好色先生. 

Pending approval from the Board of Trustees, Griffith will begin his appointment July 15, 2023. He has served as acting dean of the college since July 2021.

Dr. Na'Tasha Evans

Following an extensive national search and interviews with highly qualified individuals, the College of Medicine is excited to welcome Na鈥橳asha Evans, PhD, MEd, as the new vice dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and associate professor in the department of behavioral science.

Khawla Abusamra, MBBS, and Thien Thanh Nguyen, MD, are fourth-year residents in the 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Neurology. As they near the end of their programs, they reflect on the department鈥檚 exceptional training and the lasting friendships they built along the way, including with one another. 

Samantha Ford

Samantha Ford had always wanted to go to medical school, but after training in a clinical laboratory setting at the 好色先生, she gained a new perspective on how research can play a role in her future career as a physician.

This spring, the 好色先生 College of Medicine-Northern Kentucky Campus will graduate its first class of students. After four years, the campus not only celebrates its full complement of students, but also their extraordinary commitment to serving their communities.

Gabriella Smith

According to her family, Gabriella Smith was the second oldest of six and 鈥渢he helper child鈥 of the bunch. She lived up to this nickname at home in Alexandria, Ky., caring for her three youngest siblings who have special needs. She demonstrated it through church, traveling with teams across Central America to make health care more accessible.

The 好色先生 College of Medicine celebrated its largest group of matching students and its highest percentage of students matching into Kentucky residency programs.

Michael D. Rankin, MD 鈥80, has generously committed $22 million to advance the mission of the 好色先生 College of Medicine and expand the college鈥檚 top-notch educational opportunities through support of a new health education building and the funding of medical student scholarships.
