Use of "Honorarium" Not Allowed On Propopsal Budgets
A Word about an “Honorarium” and the Proposal Budget:
If a proposal includes a payment for a speaker (either internal to ɫ or external), it is important to note that these fees should not be characterized as an “honorarium”. At ɫ, an “honorarium” is classified as a gift (it is basically a gift intended to “honor” a person). Such payments are not allowable expenses on proposal budgets. If you would like to pay a speaker on a grant, please work with your Sponsored Research Administrative Services (SRAS) Grants Proposal Specialist (GPS) to ensure that these payments are either based on the speaker’s effort (if internal ɫ faculty) or on some other type of fee (such as a consultant fee for an external speaker). For external speakers, please allow additional time for processing.
